Breaks in Care Homes

print

Some care homes set aside 1 or 2 rooms specifically for people taking Short Breaks. Others use rooms for Short Breaks if they have a vacancy. See respite care directory for more information.

Ms Smith cares for her father both living together in the same house. Mr Smith no longer goes out of the house and needs support and supervision 24 hours a day. Mr Smith does not like having visitors in the house. Sometimes tensions run high between Mr Smith and his daughter. After discussion with her G.P. Ms Smith was visited by a Social Worker. After considering all the options Ms Smith, her father and the Social Worker agreed the best break would be for Mr Smith to spend up to 5 weeks per year in a local care home.

Example charge calculation

The cost of one week’s break in a local care home is £356.
Mr Smith has savings of £16000. Following financial assessment, Mr Smith has been assessed to pay £99.70 per week.
