Holiday Breaks with Support

print

Some holiday destinations are specifically designed for people with disabilities. Other ordinary holiday accommodation is getting better at including people with disabilities. See the respite care directory for more information.

Mr Scott cares for his wife. While the caring role is substantial, Mr and Mrs Scott have agreed with their Occupational Therapist that their ideal break would be a supported break away together, twice a year. Mr & Mrs Scott used www.radarsearch.org to find a suitable guest house and the Occupational Therapist arranged support through a local care agency.

Example charge calculation

The total cost of one week’s supported break is £280 for accommodation and £145.60 for 14 hours of visiting support = £425.60.
Social Work Services are only able to contribute to the cost of the break for the cared for person, i.e. Mrs Scott, therefore we assume the cost of Mrs Scott’s break to be half of £280 = £140 + £145.60 = £285.60.
Mr and Mrs Scott have jointly owned savings of £5900.
Following financial assessment, Mrs Scott has been assessed to pay £99.80 per week for her breaks.
The Princess Royal Trust Carers Centre were able to secure funding for Mr Scott’s share of the cost.
