Home or Community Based Short Breaks

print

This service is mainly used to provide carers with a break of a few hours or a whole day. A paid carer will be provided in the cared for person’s own home or local community, allowing the carer a little time off.

Mr Jones cares for his wife. He is also a great rugby fan. Mrs Jones enjoys reading and writing poetry and going out for lunch in garden settings. During an assessment of Mrs Jones' needs the District Nurse agreed with Mr and Mrs Jones to include 3 hours of Short Breaks per week in her Care Plan.

This gives Mr and Mrs Jones a break from one another. It allows them to do the things that they both enjoy. Sometime Mr and Mrs Jones save up their Short Break hours so that Mr Jones can go to a rugby match in Edinburgh. While he is away Mrs Jones receives the personal care she needs, often enjoying lunch at the Cross Keys hotel in Kelso.

Example charge calculation

In this example, Mrs Jones is 70. She receives full rent and council tax rebate.
Following financial assessment, she has been assessed to pay £12.40 per week for 3 hours short break.
The full charge would have been £10.40 x 3 = £31.20.
